Madhya Pradesh is known for its warm, hospitable nature, and Indore, being the heart of the state, is the most important tourist spot. Besides lip-smacking cuisine, prominent temples, historical palaces, and handloom industries, cleanliness is another major attraction of the city. As confirmed by the annual Swachh Survekshan research conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA), the city retained its title of the cleanest city in India for six consecutive years.
The city’s success can be attributed to its well-planned garbage segregation, complete ban on single-use plastic, conversion and disposal methods, and ‘bartan’ banks. Indore’s famous tourist attractions, such as Lalbagh Palace, Rajwada Palace, and Chappan Dukan, make it a prime example of cleanliness in urban areas that remain free of litter and unsanitary conditions.
Showcasing the same, a content creator stepped out to see if Indore is actually the cleanest city in India. She went to try the famous Indore food, and was amazed to see how people were using reusable plastic or steel plates, bowls, or glasses. The woman further mentioned that at a very few places’ disposables were used, but what was remarkable was that they were not made of plastic. She further showed that if you order a juice or a shake in Indore, it will come without a straw.
Moving further from the use of plastics to water management, she recorded how the restaurants had makeshift setups with minimal water pressure to clean hands instead of tissue papers. She then showed viewers the clean roads and chopati areas of Indore, explaining that people throw waste in dustbins instead of throwing it all around.
The survey didn’t end here. The content creator waited till 11 in the night for the shops to close, and then she documented how clean the roads were to guess that hundreds of people ate there sometime ago. She then showed some kiosks promoting sustainability and asking people to bring their own bags.

If Indore can do this, why can't we? pic.twitter.com/WA1VTrTbTH— Dr Aniruddha Malpani, MD (@malpani) December 28, 2023
In the two-minute video, the content creator expressed how good she felt to sit in an EV rickshaw for the first time and look at big containers being upcycled to grow plants all across the city. What more? The video also showed how wet and dry waste were being segregated, with banners and posters all across the city promoting sustainable lifestyles.
At the end, she exclaimed that Indore truly is an inspiration for the whole of India. She further asked people to make everyone aware of how good our cities can look if we also start following the ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’ and throw waste only in dustbins.
Since being shared, the video is doing the rounds on the internet beautifully explaining that if Indore people can keep their surroundings clean, why can’t we? Till now, it has amassed over 151.3k views and more than 1,000 likes.
