To secure a high-end, prestigious career in any country, a person needs to pass difficult examinations. In India, candidates who clear exams such as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Indian Institute of Technology – Joint Entrance Exam (IIT JEE) not just get high paid jobs but it also proves their academic brilliance. Also, students hoping to pass challenging competitive exams frequently work extensively, burning the midnight oil to achieve decent grades.

A user on X (formerly Twitter) recently posted a friend’s rigorous schedule while he prepared for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), emphasising on the need of time management.

On X, the user known as ‘Mr. Rc’ identified himself as 16 years old and shared a handwritten timetable of his 17-year-old friend. “Schedule of a close friend who is preparing for JEE,” the caption reads.

The screenshot of the itinerary showed his daily activities, sleep routine, and study time allocation. As per the note, the teenager wakes up around 4:30 am after sleeping at midnight, having only gotten 4.5 hours of sleep.

According to the schedule, the first 2.5 hours of the morning are spent “revising previous chapters”. He then gets ready and works on “classwork” from 7:45 am until 10 am. After a 15-minute rest or nap, the IIT-JEE candidate returns to “class work” till 12 pm. He only takes 20-minute lunch breaks. The studies then continue for three hours, followed by a 30-minute nap. The teenager attends classes from 4 to 8:30 pm. This is followed by a 30-minute “notes” session. After his dinner break, he continues to study until 11:45 pm.

To stay motivated, the student penned an inspirational quotation at the bottom of the schedule: “Never will you have this day again. So make it count.” The user who uploaded the image went on to say that his friend adheres to the schedule and is “filled with determination to bring his family out of poverty.”

People who viewed the post commented that there are thousands of such young students and that there is no alternative to hard effort, especially for those who come from low-income families. Meanwhile, a user who claimed to be an IIT student stated that he used to study 10 to 14 hours every day while preparing for the JEE.
