Mother-In-Law Is Obsessed With My Husband’: Reddit User’s Post Viral

An emotionally distraught woman has complained about her mother-in-law’s obsession with her son on the Reddit platform. The woman claimed that the mother-in-law treats him more like a husband rather than as a child. The woman wrote in the caption that she has been living with her husband for 9 years now. According to her, the mother-in-law constantly appreciates her husband’s physical features and now it has come to a tipping point. It is because the overstepping mum asked her son to cuddle up with her. After all, she was having a bad day. The discontented wife added: “We are asleep in our bed when we wake up to someone wailing as if they’ve lost a child, or something extremely terrible has happened, when we jump up in the bed it’s her in our doorway, she is sobbing uncontrollably, he immediately asked her ‘What’s wrong?’ ‘What’s going on?’ The woman replied that she had a terrible day and asked him to lie with him while she could smell his hair.

The Reddit user added that her mother-in-law comes in & out of their home whenever she pleases. As per the woman, she has never liked it nor agreed with it.

Users have come up with different explanations regarding this weird obsession and one of them called it emotional incest. Emotional incest, also called covert incest, describes an unhealthy family dynamic where a parent relies on their child for emotional and practical advice and support. The user added that it’s really hard to be the parentified child of an enmeshed and inappropriately attached parent.

A therapist cautioned the lady to keep her children away from the mother-in-law. As per the therapist, the children could also connect to the sad and jealous vibes of the elderly woman. The doctor also advised the lady to separate from her husband unless he has gone through therapy.

Both the parent and the child will need to heal from an emotional incest relationship. Initially, the parent should take the initiative to seek therapy so they can get help establishing and respecting boundaries with their children. They’ll also have to find a new, healthy resource for emotional support, such as a friend.
