2014 has been a big year for Mercedes in India, with every internationally launched model making its way to the subcontinent. The newest member to join this list is the all-new luxury SUV, the GLA.
The German carmaker has come in late to the party though, with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 already grabbing eyeballs.
The GLA in comparison to the GLK, which was the compact SUV released internationally, is a lot more striking. It's also based on the newer MFA platform, which is why the SUV is primarily a front wheel drive vehicle. As of now, there is no 4Matic option for India, which makes the SUV more of a soft roader. The all-wheel drive system however will be offered in the soon to be launched GLA 45 AMG.
The car comes in two variants - Sport and Style. The petrol option is only offered in the Sport, priced at Rs 36 lakh while the diesel Sport is priced at Rs 36.9 lakh, ex-Delhi. The GLA is available with two engine options, a 2.0-litre turbopetrol and a 2.1-litre turbodiesel motor.
The petrol is definitely the more fun to drive and suits the GLA's character better while the diesel features the tried and tested motor seen in the A- and B-Class. Both the models are available only in one top spec trim and feature a host of comfort and safety features.
