Pune Metro: Centre Approves Extension of Network to Nagidi, Full Details Inside
Once completed, the Pune Metro network will connect 33 stations, covering an impressive 37.613 km.

In a move to provide a seamless travel expirence and boost daily commuting service, the Centre on Monday gave the green signal to Pune Metro, allowing the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to extend the network to Nigdi.

According to the official details, the newly approved 4.4 km long elevated stretch will have three stations. The list includes Chinchwad, Nigdi, and Akurdi. These stations will provide a great benefit to the daily commuters, providing them a seamless travel expirence.

The decision by the government to put the stretch on priority comes after witnessing a high request from the people, who are staying in Pimpri Chinchwad or surrounding areas. According to them, the extension of the metro line will improve the connectivity to Nigdi, and will save a lot of time.

As per the details shared by the Maha-Metro officials, the project is expected to complete in 2027, and will fall under the cost of approximately Rs 910.18 crore. Official also informed that the construction is expected to kickstart in next two or three months. Amid this, the management has already started preparing the roadmap for all three metro stations, officials added.

Here’s What Maha-Metro MD Says About Plan

Reacting about the same, Maha-Metro MD, Shravan Hardikar said, “ The project will benefit the large number of population, residing at Chinchwad, Akurdi, and Nigdi areas. Assuring timely completion within the stipulated 3 years and 3 months, this extension promises to integrate seamlessly with the existing metro network, facilitating a smooth transit experience for thousands of daily commuters.”

Maha-Metro Public Relations Director Statement

Expressing his view on the approved metro stretch, Maha-Metro public relations director, Hemant Sonwane, said, “We will start the tendering process soon. It will take at least three months to complete the bidding process.”

Once completed, the Pune Metro network will connect 33 stations, covering the network in an impressive 37.613 km.
