Pune Metro: Names of 3 Important Stations To Be Changed Soon
Maha Metro had suggested renaming Bhosari, Budhwar Peth and Mangalwar Peth stations in 2023 but approval from the higher authorities was pending.

Names of three metro stations in Pune are set to be changed after commuters’ requests.

Maha Metro officials confirmed that the name change will be completed within the next 10 to 15 days, according to The Indian Express.

Maha Metro had suggested renaming Bhosari, Budhwar Peth and Mangalwar Peth stations in 2023 but approval from the higher authorities was pending.

As per the latest development, the name change process is now complete.

“As per our latest information, there will soon be a gazette notification in this regard,” Maha Metro Managing Director (MD) Shravan Hardikar was quoted as saying by the National Daily.

Nashik Phata will be the new name for Bhosari station, which is located on Corridor One in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Mangalwar Peth station will be renamed RTO, while Budhwar Peth station will become Kasba Peth.

Although the area of Bhosari is five kilometres away from the Metro line, the station was named Bhosari, which caused a great deal of confusion among passengers.

Commuters demanded that since the station was located in the Nashik Phata area, it should have been named after it.

Furthermore, the Budhwar Peth station’s name change was requested by commuters because “Budhwar Peth” is frequently connected to Pune’s red-light area. Many also suggested renaming the station to “RTO Station” because the RTO office is located near Mangalwar Peth.

Meanwhile, Kasarwadi Metro Station will renamed Nashik Phata Station. The purpose of these modifications is to make station names more accurate representations of their locations and notable landmarks.

The Central Government reportedly has approved renaming the ‘Civil Court Station’ as ‘Shivajinagar District Court Metro Station’.

In August this year, the Union Cabinet approved the Swargate-to-Katraj Underground Line Extension of the existing PCMC-Swargate Metro Line of the Pune Metro Phase-I project with a total cost of Rs 12,200 crore.

The upcoming project will connect the city’s prominent areas like Naupada, Wagle Estate, Dongripada and Hiranandani Estate.

The network, covering a total of 29 km, is set to be completed by 2029.
