With the Chennai Super Kings crashing out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mahendra Singh Dhoni would be looking to take some time off the sport. Following the heartbreaking loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Dhoni was spotted on a Bengaluru to Jhansi flight, suggesting that the cricketer was returning home. The World Cup-winning skipper was greeted with a loud cheer as he kept his luggage in the overhead compartment. He then moved towards his seat as other passengers continued cheering for the cricket icon. Some could also be seen taking snapshots and videos of MS Dhoni as he settled down. One such video of the Chennai ex-skipper has now been shared on X by a fan. “Recent Video Of Mahi While Travelling From Bengaluru to Ranchi”, the post reads.

Several fans have now reacted to the post wishing they were on the same flight as MS Dhoni. “Imagine you are on a flight to Ranchi during the end of the IPL season and this MAN [Dhoni] is sitting next to you, Ranchi people are so luckyy”, one of them wrote.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s IPL 2024 season came to an unclimactic end in Bengaluru. They lost a decisive group game in their final fixture of the tournament to crash out of the competition. Following a loss to the Faf du Plessis-led side, the five-time IPL winning captain was seen storming to the locker room after Royal Challengers Bengaluru players delayed the customary team handshake. The over-the-top celebration from the three-time finalists that led to the delay was criticised by several cricket fans and pundits on social media.
England cricket icon Michael Vaughan claimed that Royal Challengers Bengaluru players should have shown some ‘decency’. Speaking to Cricbuzz the cricketer-turned-analyst opined, “We don’t know but if that was MS Dhoni’s last game and those players run around the ground doing handstands when all they need is to wait and meet the legend. We have to just go and shake his hands and then we can do a few cartwheels and handstands”. He further said that it was now too late for the players to have regrets. “I wouldn’t want to be an RCB player tomorrow morning thinking, ‘Wait a minute, MS Dhoni has announced retirement and we didn’t have the decency to go and shake his hand first’,” Vaughan added.

While Royal Challengers Bengaluru did end Chennai Super Kings’ title defence, the three-time finalists couldn’t make it beyond the eliminator. They were beaten by four wickets by the Rajasthan Royals, bringing their IPL season to an end.
