The Indian men’s cricket team will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series. MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host the first Test from Thursday (September 19) onwards, and the second match is scheduled to take place at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. India has won 11 out of 13 Tests played against Bangladesh so far, and under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the hosts would like to maintain the win streak in the upcoming series as well.
Ahead of the start of the two-match series, here’s a look at how Indian players picked for the 1st Test have performed against Bangladesh in Test matches played so far:
Rohit Sharma (33 runs)
Indian captain Rohit Sharma has played three Tests against Bangladesh so far, and in those three matches, the right-handed batter was only able to score 33 runs.
Shubman Gill (157 runs)
In two Test matches for India against Bangladesh, 25-year-old Shubman has scored 157 runs. He scored his maiden Test century (110) against them during the match played in Chattogram from December 14-18, 2022.
Virat Kohli (437 runs)
Batting superstar Virat Kohli, who is back in the Test team after missing the last series against England due to the birth of his second child, has 437 runs to his name in six Tests played against Bangladesh so far. The former Indian captain is also one of the three batters to score a double century in red-ball matches played between the two teams.
KL Rahul (69 runs)
32-year-old KL Rahul, who led India in the last Test series against Bangladesh, has only managed to score 69 runs in six innings of three India-Bangladesh Tests.
Rishabh Pant (148 runs)
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has scored 148 runs with a strike rate of 91.35 in two Tests played against Bangladesh so far.
Ravindra Jadeja (148 runs & 6 wickets)
In three Tests against Bangladesh, world No. 1 Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has picked up six wickets for India along with scoring 148 runs.
Ravichandran Ashwin (157 runs & 23 wickets)
World No. 1 Test bowler R Ashwin has played six Tests against Bangladesh so far in which he has managed to score 157 runs and dismiss 23 batters.
Axar Patel (52 runs & 8 wickets)
Axar Patel scored 52 runs and picked up eight wickets in two Tests played against Bangladesh during the 2022 series.
Mohammed Siraj (6 wickets & 11 runs)
Mohammed Siraj has managed to get rid of six Bangladeshi batters in two matches played against them so far.
Kuldeep Yadav (40 runs and 8 wickets)
Kuldeep Yadav has played only one Test for India against Bangladesh, and he was on fire in that match, which was played in Chattogram. The 29-year-old spinner scored 40 runs in the first inning and then picked up a five-wicket haul for just 40 runs in 16 overs. In the second inning, he didn’t get a chance to bat, but he got rid of three batters.
Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, and Yash Dayal are six Indian players who are picked for the series opener against Bangladesh but are yet to play any red-ball match against them.
