In a bizarre turn of events, a Swedish footballer was sent off during a football match after the match referee showed him two yellow cards for breaking wind and termed it as “deliberate provocation” and “unsportsmanlike behaviour”.
The player, Pershagen SK defender Adam Lindin Ljungkvist, has expressed his outrage at the absurd decision. “I had a bad stomach, so I simply let go,” the 25-year-old told Swedish newspaper Lanstidningen Sodertalje.
Ljungkvist was playing as a left-back for his team in the match against Jarna SK’s reserve team in seventh-tier football league of the country.
According to the newspaper, the referee, Dany Kako, confirmed that Ljungkvist had received the second yellow and then a red card and explained that: “I perceived it as deliberate provocation. He did it on purpose and it was inappropriate. Therefore, he received a yellow card.”
Kako said he has experienced similar incidents in a football match before. “Once there was a player who stood and peed next to the pitch. I showed him a yellow card, too.”
