HYDERABAD: In response to a request by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday for additional allocation of coal to the state, the Western coalfields has agreed to supply coal. Accordingly, two shiploads of coal would be sent from Paradip, it is learnt. Besides Kerala, Haryana and Punjab have also agreed to supply power to Andhra Pradesh.
Reviewing the strike situation with senior officials here on Wednesday, Kiran Reddy asked officials to ensure that essential services were not affected and to minimise the sufferings of the common man. Deputy chief minister C Damodar Rajanarsimha, ministers A Ramanarayana Reddy, D Nagender, M Mukesh Goud, chief secretary SV Prasad and other officials concerned attended the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the chief secretary held a meeting with the task force officials constituted on power, transport, revenue and finance. Prasad asked the Transco officials to see that seven hours free power supply to farmers was maintained in spite of the present crisis since agricultural operations and farmers interests were of paramount interest. He asked the railway authorities to increase frequency of MMTS and local train services in view of the RTC strike. Besides, he asked the health officials to ensure that all government hospitals work normally and see that the patients do not face any problems. He also wanted the officials to see that all emergency services like water supply, sanitation, road cleaning etc. were not affected due to the strike by the Telangana employees.
