Three persons killed and several others were injured after police opened fire during a clash outside a thermal power plant in Ramgarh district in Jharkhand on Monday.

Ranchi: Three persons killed and several others were injured after police opened fire during a clash outside a thermal power plant in Ramgarh district in Jharkhand on Monday.

Trouble started when the local villagers gathered in front of Inland Power Limited (IPL) to resolve jobs and compensation related issues with the IPL officials.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das condemned the incident and ordered an inquiry in to the matter.

"I will not spare the culprits. I have asked the police commissioner and the DGP to investigate the matter and to submit a report within a week," he tweeted.

A large contingent of police was deployed in the area and a prohibitory orders has been imposed to prevent further clashes.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the residents near the power plant had been demanding jobs and adequate compensation for land.

However, there are allegations that the IPL management refused to fulfill all the demands pressed by the villagers. On Monday, the villagers turned violent and clashed with the police.

Several policemen and journalists were also injured in the incident.
