4 dead as cracker unit explodes

NELLORE: Four persons were killed and four others seriously injured in an explosion at fireworks manufacturing unit in Allipuram village, Atmakur mandal, on Wednesday evening. According to information reaching here, there was an explosion in the unit, where workers were engaged in making fire crackers. Sources said that this batch of fire crackers was being manufactured keeping in mind the Kovur bypolls.Of the four dead, two persons died on the spot and two others succumbed on way to hospital. While four others were admitted to Atmakur hospital, where their condition is critical. The two who died on the spot have been identified as Rajesh (30) and Naseeruddin (35), both daily wagers from Atmakur town. While the identity of one who died on way has been revealed as Ghose Basha also of Atmakur. The identify of fourth dead person is yet to be ascertained. It is learnt that the fireworks manufacturing unit was illegal and had no valid license. Fire tenders, which rushed to the spot finally succeeded in bringing down the fire. The cause of the explosion is said to be wrong mixing of chemicals by the workers. The owners of the unit are yet to be identified and traced. Atmakur police have registered a case and are investigating.
