450 IAS officers fail to declare assets
Officers who do not submit their property return in time will be denied vigilance clearance.

New Delhi: Notwithstanding a government order to make public their assets by May end, 450 IAS officers and 461 officers upto the rank of Under Secretary are yet to comply with the directive.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has made public the list of defaulting officers and directed the concerned ministries, where they are attached, to issue show cause notices to them and make notings in their performance appraisal reports.

The Centre had asked all ministries, through repeated reminders, to ask the officers to declare their property returns before May 31 so that they can be made public on the web site.

The Department of Personnel has now made public the list of defaulting IAS as well as officers of Central Secretariat Services on its web site.

DOPT has also written to all ministries to submit their compliance reports on whether all the group A officers have submitted their property returns and whether they have been placed in public domain.

The department in a circular had asked the Chief Secretaries of all states and all the ministries to direct IAS officers to submit their wealth details by April 20. "It has been decided that annual property returns as on January 1, 2011 of the All India Service and of group A Central Service Officers will be placed in public domain.

Officers who do not submit their property return in time will be denied vigilance clearance and will not be considered for promotion and empanelment to senior level posts in government, the circular issued on April 4 this year said.
