Ever wondered what makes the modern art modern? Well, we have an answer now.Bangaloreans witnessed intricate brush strokes of Seema Kohli at the interactive session — Brace Embrace held at the National Gallery of Modern Art where the artist spoke about her works in various media including sculpture, painting and installation. The first and foremost thing one notices about her paintings is the brilliant use of colours and exoticism of the effigies and patterns which altogether seem to narrate a story by itself.Inspired by the philosophical aspect of the feminine energy, her works outstand other contemporary Indian works. By and large her works expose her perspective on spirituality which is not overshadowed by faith. The Golden Womb Series which manifested the feminine aspect of Surya -- sun highlighted the theme that ultimately everything gets consumed whereas The Tree of Life had Bhagavat Gita and numerous such elements incorporated in to the obscure patterns that symbolised the fear, anger, and sorrow many people experience when they must defy the reproach of their aging physical self and the unknowns affiliated with mortality. The portrayal of nude men and women as the artist explained was not symbolic of the physicality but rather different thoughts that defines them as an individual. The colour patterns too epitomise certain aspects that are conveyed directly like the use of Blue signifies infinity, Gold -purity and sublimity and Green representing fertility. Her brush delves and conceives the entire concept of human existence altogether.During the session her works in sculpture and installations including the fascinating Butterfly Rain and the Auroborus that exemplified the cycle of life along with the extraordinary steel installations were shown. Hiranya Garbha being the theme of most of the paintings aroused the curiosity of the audience. The session ended with the screening of two short films written, directed and performed by the artist herself.Swayamsiddha Myth, Mind and Movement that correlated time and energy and I Think Therefore I am that through which Kohli defined the vista of her work and creations.
