Air India technician dies after getting sucked into aircraft engine at Mumbai airport; DGCA orders probe
The incident took place around 9.30 pm when the ground staff was accidently sucked inside the engine of Mumbai-Hyderabad AI 619 flight.

Mumbai: In a bizarre incident, a technician of Air India was killed after he was sucked into a plane engine at Mumbai Airport on Wednesday night.

The incident took place around 9.30 pm at Bay No. 28 when the technician, who was apparently standing close to the Mumbai-Hyderabad AI 619 flight, got sucked inside the engine and died instantly.

Air India CMD Ashwani Lohani said, "An Air India technician died in a mishap during pushback of flight AI 619; the incident is being investigated. We are deeply saddened and regret the tragic incident at Mumbai airport."

Sources said, the body is still stuck in the engine and efforts are going on to retrieve it.

Meanwhile, DGCA has ordered a high level probe in to the matter.
