BANGALORE: Unidentified miscreants, who claimed to be the activists of Prani Daya Sangha, allegedly murdered a lorry driver  on Tumkur Road late on Monday night. The miscreants, who took objection for transporting cattle, allegedly robbed the driver before pushing him to death. The deceased driver Krishnappa, 40, was a native of Chintamani in Kolar. The miscreants also assaulted the cleaner of the vehicle, Babu John, who has filed a case in Peenya police station.According to the police, Krishnappa and John had gone to Hoovina Hadagali in Bellary to purchase cattle at a fair, in view of Bakrid festival. On Monday night they were returning to the city in the lorry, which had eight cattle in it. On the elevated expressway, a Tata Sumo waylaid their vehicle. About six-seven people introduced themselves as activists of Prani Daya Sangha and enquired about the cattle.  “They demanded money from Krishnappa and threatened him to file a police complaint if he did not pay heed to their demand. When he refused, they allegedly robbed him and pushed him down from the flyover. Later, they assaulted John before fleeing the scene,” the police added. John managed to shift Krishnappa to a hospital for treatment but succumbed to injuries. Later, he filed murder, attempt to murder and dacoity case with the Peenya police. The police are now trying to ascertain whether the miscreants belonged to any pro-animal welfare group or not. Further investigations are on.
