ASI cremated with state honours

NUAPADA: Slain ASI Kruparam Majhi (42) was cremated with full State honours at his native village of Beltukuri under Khariar Road police limits, on Wednesday morning.Majhi was kidnapped by Maoists on Tuesday and later his bullet-ridden body was found near Bharuanmunda. IG of Police (Operation) Arun Kumar Sarangi flew into the village and expressed condolence on behalf of the State Government to Majhi’s wife Jugeswari at their residence. He also handed over a cheque for ` 8 lakh ex gratia to the family. He informed her that documentation for settlement of insurance claim of another ` 10 lakh was underway and a job would be provided to a member of the family.Earlier, interacting with the media, DIG (South West Range) S Priyadarshi said it was for the first time that the Maoists killed a police personnel in the district. He admitted that the guerilla warfare of the Maoists had been posing problem for the local police.The DIG also visited the Reserve Police Line accompanied by SP Umashankar Dash and paid obeisance to Majhi’s body in the coffin.
