Bomb hoax in Thane district court spreads confusion all around

Confusion prevailed in the Thane district court premises on Friday afternoon for more than three hours after a bomb hoax, the city police said.

As soon as the police began rushing into the court premises shortly before lunch break, there was a hue and cry and advocates as well as people present in the court premises in thousands started running around to save their lives.

The Thane city police control said that it received an anonymous call at about 12.30 pm from a caller stating that four unknown people planned to carry out "sabotage" in court.

The caller did not not specify the manner in which the sabotage would be carried out, the police said.

After the call the bomb disposal squad and crime branch officials were sent to the court for a search.

However, after a three-hour combing operation, the police did not not find anything.

According to a police source, this was a hoax call to create confusion in court, since the result of the bail application of 16 people arrested in the infamous Shil-Daighar building crash in which 74 perished was supposed to be announced on Friday in the court of Additional Sessions Judge PH Mali.
