HYDERABAD: The most important festival of the Sikh community, the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singhji, the 10th and last Sikh Guru and founder of the Khalsa Panth, will be celebrated in the twin cities from Dec 29 to 31.The Prabhandak Committee of the Central Gurdwara Saheb, Gowliguda will take out a Nagar Keertan at 4 pm on Dec 29. “It will pass through  Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha, Guru Nanak Marg, Ashok Bazar, Afzalgunj,  Siddiamber Bazar, MJ Market, Jambagh, Putlibowli and return to the Gurdwara Sahib in the evening,” committee president S Tirlok Singh and general secretary S Satbir Singh Sandhu said. Over 20,000 devotees are expected to take part in the Nagar Keertan during which the Guru Granth Saheb, the Holy Scripture of the Sikhs, will be carried on a vehicle decked up with flowers and religious flags.The major attraction of the procession will be the display of Gatka, a famous Sikh martial art form, and other sword exercises to be performed by Dashmesh Kalgidhar Jatha and other special Gatka parties. On Dec 31, the birthday of the Sikh Guru, a Vishaal Deewan (mass congregation) will be held at the Central Gurdwara Saheb Gowliguda from 10 am to 4 pm where over 25,000 to 30,000 devotees are expected to gather.The event will be marked by the recitation of Gurbani Keertans by reputed Ragi Jathas (religious preachers) who are being specially  invited from across the country. Bhai Amandeep Singhji (Punjab) and Bhai Partap Singhji Bandhi (Batalawale, Punjab) among others will recite the Shabad Keertans and throw light on the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. A night Keertan darbar will also be organised. On Dec 30, Amrit Sanchar (a traditional ritual) will be held at the Gurdwara premises at 11 a.m.
