HYDERABAD: Mir Mohtesham Ali Khan, who helped the Indian team bag four medals at the Mr World Body Building Competition last year, has been appointed coach for the second time in a row for the national team that is set to take part in the Mr Universe Body Building Competition 2011 to be held from Dec 2 to 8 in Naples. The famous Hyderabadi hopes to do an encore with the 11-member team, of whom two are from Andhra Pradesh, Vijay Kumar Yadav (26) and Mohd Rayees (23). The duo will be competing in the 75 kg and 80 kg categories respectively.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, the 36-year-old expressed his happiness at his appointment and thanked the Indian Body Building Federation for reposing faith in him. He also thanked Mohd Rafeeq, Iftekhar Shareef and Muzafaruddin from the Mumtaz Group, Riyadh and Maqdoom Bros for sponsoring Mohd Rayees.
He said his experience at the international level had helped body builders bag four medals at the Mr World Competition in Las Vegas last year and added that he was looking forward to a better performance from the Indian contingent this time. An employee of the Indian Railways, Mohtesham had won a number of awards both at the national and international levels. “I have always been interested in body building and wanted to make it big,” he said and attributed years of hard work to his present standing.
Among Mohtesham’s achievements are a silver medal at the Mr World Body Building Competition and sixth position at the Mr Universe contest. All in all, he has won over 38 awards from local to international competitions. He had also captained the Indian team eight times in Mr World and Mr Universe competitions and is a recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Vidya Vikas Award. He had also received a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a promotion from the then railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav following his victory at Mr World competition in 2009.
