City clubs raided, 40 held

HYDERABAD: The Task Force police on Monday conducted searches at various family clubs across the city and arrested as many as 40 gamblers. Rs 1.30 lakh in cash was recovered from them.In a joint operation, the Law Order section and Task Force police conducted surprise checks at various clubs in Secunderabad, Abids and Saidabad areas to verify whether any kind of illegal activities are being allowed.
Following the police crackdown, card rooms at majority of the 50odd family clubs have been shut down for a month. The clubs visited include Chiranfort club in Begumpet and Friend's Club in Saidabad. Task Force deputy commissioner of police Ch Ramchander said the surveillance will continue.
