BANGALORE: Major government and private hospitals are gearing up for Deepawali in the city. At Minto Ophthalmic Hospital under Bangalore Medical college and Research Institute (BMCRI),  all the nursing and doctoral staff would be on duty round the clock for three days that is before, on and after Deepawali, to deal with the cases of eye injuries.“We will keep the entire team of doctors on round the clock duty on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday  especially for Deepawali related injuries. Drugs have been stocked at the hospital to avoid any inconvenience to the patients”, said Medical Superintendent of Minto Ophthalmic Hospital Dr Shiva Prasad Reddy.According to doctors, last year there were 47 eye injury cases,out of which 38 were children.“Even after the festival is over, patients from other districts keep coming to our hospital as some injuries become severe and complicated”, he added.Sankara Eye Hospital has also made elaborate arrangements for patients with eye injuries. Doctors have been put on special emergency duty round the clock for the whole week.Hospitals are also offering free consultation and first aid treatment. Speaking to Express Dr K Bhujang Shetty Chairman, Narayana Nethralaya said,”In all three branches, located at Rajajinagar, Ashok Nagar and Health City, we will offer free consultation and primary or first aid treatment to the patients on Deepawali.”“Only highly complicated surgery will be charged”, he added.
