BANGALORE: Vacant sites filled with garbage, stray dogs are some of the major problems, other than drinking water which are haunting the residents of Marappanapalya Ward. The ward comprises of many vacant sites which are used as dumping yards. “The empty lands are used to dump garbage. Also the garbage are lit up with fire, which chokes the neighbouring residents. The Palike must bring in some regulations so that the owners of the vacant sites fence their land. This will avoid the garbage being dumped in the vacant sites,” said Raju R R, a resident. The vacant lands are full of parthenium and other plants which proves to be a safe haven for reptiles. The public toilet in the ward lacks any maintenance and is not in a state to be used by the general public as the toilet is stagnated with urine and emits foul smell. The premise of the health centre in the ward also lacks hygienic atmosphere as garbage and other filth are dumped near the health centre.Shankarnagar, one of the areas in the ward establishes link to ring road. There is heavy traffic on Shankarnagar Main Road as vehicles moving towards Peenya, Nelmangala, Yeshwanthpur, etc take this road to avoid traffic. The pollution has increased due to this, the residents alleged. Also like any other ward, this ward too has shortage of water. “We get drinking water on alternate days. We face huge shortage due to this. The area corporator should take some necessary steps and fetch us more water before summer” said Basavaraju S, a resident of the ward. Since the ward is near to D Devaraj Urs Truck Terminal, once is terminal is filled, the remaining trucks are forced to park in the nearby localities. Many sand lorries can be seen lined up in Marappanapalya ward. The truckers litter in the ward during night making it difficult for the residents to live in. The resident also said that their area do not have a play ground and park. "We are forced to walk down to the park and playground at Nandini Layout,” the residents said. The area coporator Lakshmi was not available for any comments.
