CHENNAI: The Congress Party still enjoys the trust of the people of Tamil Nadu despite the poor performance in the recent election, Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan has said. He added that the grand old party would soon stage a comeback in the State.“We have taken a number of steps to grow the party at the grassroots level. Our efforts are going well so far. You will see, it will not be long before the Congress once again becomes the largest party in the State,” said Vasan. He refused to comment or speculate on who would be appointed the next president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. He said the decision would be made by the party high command in Delhi and it would be made public soon.Vasan’s comments came soon after he launched a Tamil book titled ‘Indiya Arasiyalil Rahul Gandhi’ (Rahul Gandhi in Indian Politics), on Saturday. The book, written by MG Selvaraj, is the latest in a line of books about Congress leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Moopanar and Kamaraj.“I hope my book on Rahul Gandhi serves to mobilise the youth and strengthen the party,” said Selvaraj, son of deceased freedom fighter MP Govindarajan. Vasan and the other dignitaries at the function also paid floral tributes to the author’s father.
