TRIPUNITHURA: At a time when costly offerings to the Almighty are the talk of the town, forty-five construction workers from Udayamperoor have done their bit to buttress the message that ‘Service to the Poor is Service to God’.They came together to build a two bed room house for Joseph, a mason from Thykoodam, for free.Strong believers of Mother Mary, the Samaritans decided to offer their efforts to help a fellow being from the poorer section of the society to mark the 10th anniversary of the Nithya Sahaya Matha Church in Udayamperoor. The 45 workers, after their weekly prayers at the Church, gathered near Kaattikunnu to construct the house for Joseph without taking even a rupee as wage. This rare show of generosity was a pleasant surprise for Joseph and his family, comprising wife Sherly and two sons Sanu George and Jinu Thomas. Joseph managed to own four cents of land with his life-time earnings. However, his financial background was very poor to fulfill the dream of building a house. So the family was residing in a rented house near Mankayi Kavala. It was then that the workers came forward to help out a fellow believer. When the church authorities drew lots to choose from the shortlisted names, fortune smiled on Joseph. And as per the plan charted out by Fr Sebastian, the priest of the Nithya Sahaya Matha Church, the dedicated faithful set out to serve Mother Mary with their free service to Joseph, the mason. Given the task of naming the house aptly, they named it ‘Daiva Krupa’. The house was sanctified by Metropolitan Archbishop of Verapoly, Francis Kallarackal. “We are dedicating this house as an ideal gift in the name of Mother Mary,” said the 45 workers, who sacrificed their blood and sweat to help a poor family.
