New Delhi: Bipasha Basu's 'Raaz 3' will soon hit the screens. Many think that it will be her big comeback, while others prefer to differ.

View: May be the game is already over for Bipasha Basu

While the actresses like Karisma Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Raveena Tandon and Rani Mukerji are looking for a right break to make a comeback, their co-stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are still ruling the box office. It is a known fact in Bollywood that heroines do not have a long shelf life. And at 33, may be Bipasha Basu is also going through the same crisis.

In her upcoming film ‘Raaz 3’, Bipasha Basu plays an actress whose career is on a downfall as she fails to match up to the younger heroines in Bollywood. May be it stands true for Bipasha in real life too.

After a series of flop films like ‘Aa Dekhen Zara’, ‘All The Best’, ‘Aakrosh’, ‘Lamhaa’, ‘Players’, ‘Jodi Breakers’, it seems Bipasha Basu is gradually losing her place in the A-league of actors. Moreover, she looks a bit old to star opposite 20 something actors now. Rather than her films, her fitness DVDs are more popular now.

After her successful films like ‘Raaz’, ‘Jism’, ‘No Entry’ and ‘Omkara’, she became the ultimate symbol of sensuality. However, even the sex symbol tag is not working for her now. Do you even remember her last popular item number?

After ‘Raaz 3’, she is working on another supernatural thriller ‘Aatma’ with ‘Nawazuddin Siddiqui’, really? She will also be seen in Abbas-Mustan’s multi-starrer film ‘Race 2’. With virtually no meaty roles in hand, is it the right time for Bipasha Basu to take a break or simply turn producer.

Counter View: Bipasha Basu has a lot left in her

Not many actors receive such kind of attention from casting directors as Bipasha has received since the beginning of her career. She had 32 releases in first eight years of her career. The audience have seen her on screen nine times in last three years, which poses a doubt on the point of debate itself. How can one even talk about a heroine’s retirement who is getting films so frequently!

It’s true that many new heroines have entered into the category to which Biapsha belongs and thus she has to face a stiff competition now, but her relatively better acting prowess gives her an edge over others. She has been nominated for the Filmfare Award in ‘Raaz’, ‘Jism’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Corporate’ and ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, not many heroines get so many nominations in such a short period.

The promos of ‘Raaz 3’ suggest the kind of flavour her character has in the film. Normally, a film doesn’t get successful just because of its star power, so Vikram Bhatt’s direction will play a major part in the success of ‘Raaz 3’, but as far as the acting department is concerned, Bipasha is going to have the last laugh for two simple reasons.

First, the story is about the rivalry of two women, one of these is newcomer Esha Gupta and she has not shown much promise so far. Bipasha has a meatier role than her, plus such characters suit her image.

Secondly, her character in ‘Raaz 3’ seems to be very loud, and traditionally the Indian audiences have always liked loud characters.

She never had figure or beauty related issues, so all she needs to do is to focus on her role. Those who have seen ‘Shob Charitro Kalponik’ would understand that Bipasha can actually do well in characters with grey shades.

There is no point in signing her off, in fact, be prepared for her best. She is quite capable of surprising you in ‘Raaz 3’.
