BANGALORE: Sunday was yet another lazy day for the most in the city, but not for some. Many youths — all mostly dressed in white, wearing backpacks and caps, carrying their own water bottles — were seen waiting near Gandhi Krushi Vijnan Kendra Campus near Hebbal. The enthusing aspect was that, they were all on bicycles — some of them were using cycle after 10 years. The group of young social workers, Aviratha, organised this bicycle ride to support its notebook donation drive event for the next academic year. The event involved the participation of over 60 cyclists between the age group of 10 to 45 years. The cycling covered a distance of 22 kms from GKVK campus, Hebbal to Bagalur Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalay. There were doctors, engineers, students and others who participated in the team. The volunteers interacted with students of Navoday Vidyalay school. A quiz was conducted for the student teams — Aravali, Udayagiri, Shivalik and Neelgiri. Ravindra, an IT professional who cycled after 15 years, said, “Last time I had cycled was when I was in PUC. I was apprehensive initially, but the cause behind the cycle ride inspired me. Everything went on well as planned.” In addition to serving the main purpose of raising funds for notebook drive, yet another purpose was to spread awareness among people about cycling and environment-friendliness. The planning ensured that the event was successful in serving all the purposes effectively.
