The International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced a new edition of the FIH Tournament Regulations on Monday.

New Delhi: The International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced a new edition of the FIH Tournament Regulations on Monday, the most significant of which includes the inclusion of an 'own goal'.

To come into effect from August 13, the new regulations will be subject to a review, the FIH posted on its website.

"These new Regulations will come into effect from Monday 13 August and will apply from that date until an update is published," FIH said on its website. "The new edition of the Regulations has been subject to a major review and follows the format used for the Regulations for the Olympic Games," it added.

According to the information posted on www.fih.ch, significant changes have been made to the duties and responsibilities of Tournament Directors, protests and appeals and competition formats. Also the sport's apex body will allow up to 18 players on a squad until the review.

But the most significant change remains the inclusion of an 'own goal' that will "become a mandatory experimental rule with effect from January 2013."
