CHENNAI: Four persons, including the manager of a private finance company, were arrested for kidnapping and detaining a man at a house in Ayanavaram for defaulting on payment for a loan borrowed from the firm, in Vepery on Sunday.According to sources, Parthiban (36), a resident of Vepery, had borrowed `3.5 lakh from a private finance firm six months ago. It is said that Parthiban paid the installments for first three months and then defaulted. Also, he had shifted his residence without informing the company. The company allegedly pressured the branch manager E Gopal (21) of Tondiarpet, to recover the amount. and he managed to trace Parthiban to a house in Purasawalkam. Last Saturday, he and his friends P Suresh (21), A Prashanth (19) and M Ashok (21) asked Parthiban to accompany them to the finance company. However, they kidnapped him and took him to Prashanth’s house in Ayanavaram, where they allegedly assaulted and locked him inside a room for six hours. Parthiban told the police that he was locked up without providing drinking water for six hours. He was set free only after he promised to bring `2 lakh immediately. But, Parthiban filed a complaint with the Vepery police, in which he alleged that the quartet had stolen `12,500 from him.Based on his complaint, police arrested Gopal, Suresh, Prashanth and Ashok. Police sources said Parthiban had cheated a few finance companies in the past.
