Mumbai: Hitler's Cross, the sign that spread terror across Europe in the 1940s, has been brought back to life in form of a restaurant in Navi Mumbai.
The restaurant named Hitler's Cross has enraged the city's Jewish community and has brought them together to take on their old adversary.
The community is now busy organising a resistance against the resurrection of Hitler in form of the restaurant mascot.
“Hitler didn't conquer anything. He is just a war criminal who killed six million Jews," Member Jewish Community Naomi Massil, says.
The sentiment was reflected in the meeting of the representatives of the 5,000-strong Jewish Community of Mumbai that was galvanised into action by the 56-year-old Massil.
"We just want him to change the name of the restaurant," she says.
But the manager of the restaurant remains unrepentant.
“I didn't put much thought into it. I just wanted to conquer the worlds with my taste,” he says, adding, ”I haven't thought of changing the name as yet))
The Jewish community, too, is not showing any signs of backing out.
“If he is unwilling to be persuaded then we will approach the Human Rights Commission and the minorities commission to contemplate legal action,” a member Solomon Sopher says.
The owner of the restaurant may have hoped to conquer the world of eating joints, but under-estimated the power of the small Jewish community in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra government has also ordered additional secretary level inquiry into the controversy.
