Is Bollywood ready for Vikram after 'David'?
Vikram is currently preparing for his role in Shankar's 'I'. Amy Jackson will be his co-star. AR Rahman has composed the music for the film.

New Delhi: Vikram who is lovingly called 'Chiyan' by his fans has risen to fame after a long struggle. Bala revealed the meaning of Vikram's character as 'Chiyan' in the film 'Sethu' in an award function. 'Chiyan' means street smart or rogue.

Vikram became the talk of tinsel town after his performance in Bejoy Nambiar's 'David'. The actor played the role of one of the three 'David', (Vikam, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Vinay Virmani) a fisherman living in Goa who falls in love with a hearing and speech impaired girl 'Maria' (Isha Sharvani) who is soon to marry his best friend.

The actor made his debut in Bollywood with Mani Ratnam's 'Ravan', a Hindi remake of Tamil film 'Ravanan'. Vikram was appreciated for his intense performance in the film.

Yet, ask Vikram why he refrains from taking up more roles in Bollywood?

"I am satisfied with my career in the Southern film industry. It's my hobby to do Bollywood films," he says.

Is it the only reason?

"Characters are important to me, and then of course the script. I want my audience to appreciate me as an actor and to distinguish between my previous roles", he adds.

The hugely talented Vikram has charmed his audience with the roles he has played over the years. He is a household name in the South today. The actor, who had a tough time learning Hindi for his film 'David', likes to give every film his best, be it in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Hindi.

"Language has never been the barrier for me in acting. I believe in my character", the actor said in a recent interview.

As he celebrates his 47th birthday today, we are yet to see more of him in the Hindi film industry that could use his talent.

The actor is currently preparing for his role in Shankar's 'I'. Amy Jackson will be his co-star. AR Rahman has composed the music for the film.

Shankar has roped in 'Weta Workshop', a film prop and special effects company headed by Richard Leslie Taylor and Peter Jackson, for makeup and special effects.
