Bangalore: The Vigilance and Security SPs of the Travancore Devaswom Board, who were in the city to meet Jayamala in the eye of a storm after claiming that she had visited the famed Sabarimala Ayappa temple in Kerala, had to return empty-handed as the actress refused to talk to them on Wednesday.
The officials, including Vigilance SP P G Ashok Kumar, arrived in the city on a fact-finding mission following a Kerala High Court notice to the Board, the Kerala Government and Jayamala on a writ petition, seeking an 'appropriate inquiry' into the controversy.
Jayamala had claimed that she had entered the sanctum sanctorum of the hill shrine, prohibited for women between the ages of ten and 50, and even touched the feet of the deity, stirring up a hornet's nest.
The officials met city Commissioner of Police N Achyuta Rao and sought his help for successfully completing their mission. The CoP directed ACP (Law and Order) Bipin Gopalakrishna to coordinate with the Kerala officials.
According to Gopalakrishna, the actress refused to meet the Board officials when he spoke to her in this regard. She and her husband, cinematographer Ramachandra, maintained that unless they got written information from the Kerala authorities, they would not speak to any official.
When contacted, Ashok Kumar said they had not come to conduct any investigation, but were just on a fact-finding mission as they had to submit a report to the Board, which in turn, would submit a report to the Government for future course of action.
The Board was slated to meet on July 7 to discuss the report and decide the type of investigation, considering the seriousness of the issue.
"If the actress refuses to talk to us, what can we do? We will submit a report to the Board on Thursday on whatever happened during our visit to Bangalore," he said.
