THOOTHUKUDI: The Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project is essential for growth of the nation, said Union Minister for Shipping G K Vasan here on Saturday.Speaking to reporters after dedicating to the nation the 12.8-metre draught facility for berthing of Panamax vessel at the V O C Port, he said electricity is as essential as food and the State has been reeling under power shortage for many years. Implementation of the Koodankulam project would benefit the State to the maximum. Besides receiving 1,000 MW power, Tamil Nadu could sell it to other States.He said the Central panel comprised members proficient in their respective fields. Hence, speaking with the panel hurriedly and declaring that the talks have broke down was not correct. “I look forward to the implementation of the project,” the union minister added.
