Madurai: Rains play spoilsport with BJP concalve

MADURAI: The State conference of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slated to be held in Madurai on April 28 and 29 has been postponed, the organisers said.Rains that lashed Madurai during the last three days was attributed as one of the main reasons for deferment of the conference for which elaborate arrangements had already been made near the Viraganur ring road here. Huge “pandals” were erected at the conference venue as national leaders, including L K Advani and party president Nitin Kadkari, were scheduled to attend the conference. Talking to reporters at the venue of the conference Pon Radhakrishnan, party’s state president, said that as the meteorological department has forecast heavy rains on Friday also, the conference is postponed. He said all arrangements have been done except the formation of the dining area and temporary toilets at the conference venue. The party’s state executive committee would meet on Friday to finalise the new dates for the conclave,  Radhakrishnan said.“It will take at least 10 days to set right the venue” Radhakrishnan informed.
