KOCHI: All routes to Thekkemadom have become effervescent with the soulful chanting of mantras and shlokas, as Sahasra Chandika Maha Yagnam commenced at Dharma Sastha Temple in Thekkemadom, Mattanchery, on Tuesday. The ecstatic devotees are high in their spirits as this is the first time that such a grand ‘yagnam’ is being organized and conducted in Kerala, under the auspices of Maharudra Committee, Kochi.A group of around 50 scholars from Chennai, who are well trained in scriptures and vedas, have been in forefront of steering and conducting this ‘maha yagnam’ and relative ‘havans’. The ‘yagnam’ mainly comprises of chanting the sacred “Devi Mahathmyam” one thousand times.Aimed at universal peace and prosperity, the programme includes rare ‘havans’ like ‘Bhagyasooktha Homam,’ ‘Dhanwathari Homam,’ ‘Mahasudarsana Homam,’ ‘Sree Sooktha Homam,’ ‘Dhathathreya Homam,’ ‘Sree Sastha Homam,’ ‘Vanadurga Homam,’ ‘Swayamvara Parvathi Homam’ and ‘Mahalakshmi Kamalathmika Homam’ to name a few. A variety of special Ganapati ‘homams’ are also included in the programme. ‘Maha Yagnam’ will end on March 2, 2012.
