Union women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi on Friday met executives of Twitter in a bid to understand the mechanism that would be required to put an end to online trolling and abuse.
Twitter has said it will extend full cooperation to the ministry on the issue of dealing with trolls after the minister raised the issue with the company.
Maneka's meeting with Twitter executives comes two days after she asked women who have been at the receiving end of online abuse to complaint to her directly at [email protected].
She had also asked women to tweet by the hastag #IamTrolledHelp in case they were harassed.
Maneka has promised to formalise the mechanism and announce her full plan next week.
When asked about the skepticism surrounding the whole exercise Maneka said that people were initially apprehensive about the marriage matrimonial sites too but have finally fallen in line.
Maneka also assured that there will be no snooping and that the government will wait for complainants to approach them.
