In the latest development in the Mercedes hit-and-run case in the national capital, the father of the underage driver has been booked by police for giving his vehicle to his son. The boy who was driving the car was just three day short of 18 years.
A Delhi based business consultant was killed in the incident that took place in the Civil Lines area of the national capital on Monday.
The victim was walking towards his home when he was run over. The accused fled from the spot after the incident, which took place near the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The family of the victim has accused the police of inaction, terming the investigation as an eyewash.
The victim's sister, Shilpa Mittal, said, "Police investigation is an eyewash, they did not make immediate arrest even after eyewitnesses narrated the evidence. All the children and parents are responsible for the death of my brother, the buck has to stop here."
"Investigation has not been done the way it should have been…the case should be considered rarest of rare and the juvenile must be booked," said victim's father Prem Raj Sharma.
Meanwhile, the police clarified that the father of the accused was booked under sections of MV Act as he gave the vehicle to his underage son, who has no valid driving license. The police said that action would also be taken against the driver who had initially claimed that he was driving the car.
The accused is just three days short of 18years as was born on April 8, 1998.
