Ministers, Mayor tour rain-hit areas

CHENNAI: With a view to get a first-hand experience of waterlogging after the torrential overnight rains in the city’s low-lying areas, Municipal Administration Minister K P Munusamy toured the affected areas on Thursday along with Information Minister G Senthamilan and Mayor Saidai Duraisamy.A release said that they inspected water-logged areas in MGR Nagar Fifth Street, Vijayanagar Lake Area, Ram Nagar, Thanthai Periyar Nagar-Taramani, Thiruvalluvar Nagar-Perungudi, Bharani Street, Venkateshwara Nagar in Velachery, Market area, Kaliamman Koil Street and Sheik Abdullah Nagar in Koyambedu and canals in Virugambakkam and Chinmaya Nagar.After reviewing the ground situation, Munusamy told reporters that the Corporation staff and the PWD Department have been asked to coordinate and take immediate steps to drain out the stagnant storm water through the canals.
