Minor drugged, gangraped

BHUBANESWAR: In a shocking incident, a minor girl was allegedly gangraped near the bus stand at Baramunda area of the city on Thursday night.  The girl, 16, was waiting for a bus to Bhanjanagar when the miscreants offered her help and then took her to a house located near a cycle-stand where she was apparently drugged and gangraped. On Friday evening, the PCR van took her to a short-stay home near Janla where the lady counsellor could find out that the girl had been raped. Till then even police had no clue.   The victim belonged to Pithapur area of Cuttack and had left home after a fight with the family. She wanted to go to her maternal uncle’s place and boarded a bus to Bhubaneswar. She just had  Rs. 40 with her. The 16-year old got down at Baramunda bus stand on Thursday evening where she was to catch another bus to Bhanjanagar but did not have enough money for the ticket.   The victim was wandering when she was spotted by one of the miscreants who posed as a decent person and told her that the bus stand was not a good place to spend the night and offered assistance saying that she could come with him to his place since he had a sister. The girl is believed to have agreed to the idea. After gaining confidence of the girl, the accused took her to the house where she was given cold drink laced with drugs. In that house, she was allegedly gangraped.  The distressed girl was spotted by locals in that place in the morning and since she had nowhere to go, she kept sitting there till the evening when the PCR van dropped her off at Swadhara short-stay home. At the shelter home, the girl spoke to the counsellor and the matter came to light.  Police had begun investigation in the incident.
