Panaji: In a late night development in the Nadia Torrado death case, Goa Police on Thursday arrested her mother Sonia and booked her for culpable homicide and destruction of evidence.
Former tourism minister Mickky Pacheco has already been arrested on similar charges in connection with the death of Nadia, his alleged lover, two weeks ago.
Sonia, 55, a teacher at a Jesuit-run school in Goa, has been booked under sections 201, 309, 304, 306 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
She was called to the Crime Branch late on Thursday night, arrested and then sent to the Goa Medical College for medical examination, before being sent to the police lock up.
A police source said that a maid servant employed at the Torrado residence had said that Sonia had asked her to burn five bags of her daughter's belongings, which included clothes and documents, immediately after Nadia died on May 30.
Nadia died after consuming rat poison, allegedly after a spat with Pacheco, an Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislator.
