Kolkata: The CBI has sent a summon letter to the management of Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) after Trinamool Congress MP Sultan Ahmed reportedly told the probe agency that the money he received from journalist Mathew Samuel after a sting operation was donated to the club.
The Mohammedan Sporting Club was founded in 1891 in Kolkata. Sultan Ahmed is the president of the club. It is one of the oldest and leading football clubs in India.
Sources said that the club members were asked to appear before the CBI with relevant documents after Ahmed failed to show them any receipt to substantiate his claim that he had actually donated the money to MSC.
Recently, the MP as well as party MLA Iqbal Ahmed had refused to hand over their voice samples for a Voice Spectrographic Test (VST) to the CBI. CBI then acquired the voice samples from the national archives of Doordarshan.
The sting operation case was conducted by Narada news in West Bengal to expose the alleged corrupt practices of ministers in the Mamata Banerjee government. The sting was conducted under the supervision of Narada news founder Mathew Samuel for a period of two years.
Ahead of the 2016 Assembly elections in West Bengal, Narada news released videos of sting operations. Videos showed 13 TMC ministers and leaders accepting bribes in return of favours/misusing official positions.
Mathew Samuel of Narada news formed a fictitious company and he approached several TMC ministers asking them for favours in return of money.
Those who were seen in the Narada sting tapes are: Firhad Hakim, Mukul Rai, Saugata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Sultan Ahmed, Subrata Mukherjee, Subhendu Adhikari, Sovan Chatterjee, TMC MP Aparupa Poddar, Madan Mitra, Iqbal Ahmed, Prasun Banerjee and H.M.S. Mirza.
