Helsinki/New Delhi: Finnish cell phone maker Nokia has slapped fresh lawsuits against Apple, alleging violation of patents related to iPhone and iPad, among other products, in three countries.
Nokia on Thursday said it has filed lawsuits in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
"These (the latest lawsuits) actions add 13 further Nokia patents to the 24 already asserted against Apple in the US International Trade Commission and the Delaware and Wisconsin Federal courts," Nokia's Vice-President (Intellectual
Property) Paul Melin said in a statement.
The move comes at a time when Nokia is making all efforts to garner more share in the fast-growing smartphone market, which is dominated by Apple.
According to the Finnish major, Apple's many products including iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch violate patents related to touch user interface, on-device app stores, antenna structures and chipsets, among others.
Lawsuits filed in the UK and Germany cover four and 12 patents, respectively. Nokia has sued Apple in the Netherlands, alleging violation of two patents.
"The Nokia inventions protected by these patents include several which enable compelling user experiences.
"For example, using a wiping gesture on a touch screen to navigate content, or enabling access to constantly changing services with an on-device app store, both filed more than ten years before the launch of the iPhone," Melin noted.
Nokia said that it has invested 40 billion euros in R&D activities in the last two decades.
