THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SMS facility instituted by the Women’s Commission will give confidence to women, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here on Tuesday. He was speaking after inaugurating the SMS service.By sending SMS to 537252, one can register complaint with the Commission or can seek information. ‘’Providing a space for women to complaint is more important than the number of case attended. The mechanism to take action on their complaints will boost the confidence of women,’’ he said. ‘’The success of the facility depends upon the Commission’s response to the complaints. The Commission has many limitations. There is lack of officials. Basic infrastructure also needs development. The government will take necessary steps,’’ the Chief Minister said. Chandy said that though small in number, cases of atrocities against women are a blot on our culture and society. Such cases will be taken seriously.  ‘’Some fear to register complaints. The cases of unwed mothers in Wayanad is an example. The government has formed a team headed by a DIG. The team will visit the victims’ houses and will take action. The ‘Thuvalsparsam’ programme has been introduced for the welfare of women and children,’’ he said. To register complaints, SMS can be sent to 537252 in a specific format. For example, in case of harassment by husband, complaint must be sent in the format Vanithacomp harassment by husband. The people can also seek information about various facilities of the Commission. National Informatics Centre (NIC) provided technical support for the facility.  Minister for Social Welfare M K Muneer delivered the presidential address. Commission chairperson Justice D Sreedevi welcomed the gathering.
