There are 78,123 police personnel in Delhi as against the sanctioned strength of 83,452, which means that for every 222 citizens there is one policeman, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

There are 78,123 police personnel in Delhi as against the sanctioned strength of 83,452, which means that for every 222 citizens there is one policeman, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

"The sanctioned strength of Delhi Police personnel as on December 31, 2012 was 83,542.

The present posted strength of Delhi Police personnel is 78,123.

The ratio of police personnel to the population in Delhi is approximately one police officer for every 222 citizens," Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a query.

Action has been initiated to fill the 1,588 vacancies by April 2014, he said.

Replying to another question, the minister said Delhi Police has installed CCTV systems at 71 important locations, markets and border check posts in the metropolis.

"Besides, action has been initiated to install CCTV systems at 22 other important locations. All the CCTV cameras installed by Delhi Police are in working condition," he said.
