CHENNAI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) on Sunday demanded that the local bodies polls be conducted in a free and fair manner.Accompanied by supporters, PMK’s Chennai mayoral candidate A K Murthy and party MLA G K Mani arrived at the police commissionerate to submit a plea to the Commissioner of Police J K Tripathy. The petition alleged that while the PMK candidate for ward 99, Suganthi, was talking to the party’s youth wing secretary Gunasekaran in the locality on October 11, a group of 20 AIADMK workers led by their local secretary Kalidas came there and picked up a quarrel with them. In the verbal altercation, a PMK worker Balasubramaniam was stabbed. The PMK filed a complaint at the Thirumangalam police station and a petition at the DGP office, but the police had not initiated action. While urging the CoP to take action against the culprits, the petition also called upon him to ensure that the elections to the local bodies were conducted in a free and fair manner.
