New Delhi: Sri Lanka army on Monday claimed a body suspected to be that of Charles Anthony, son of LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran, was found in war zone.
According to the Lanka army website, sources in the battlefront say the body was found after an “unsuccessful and half-hearted attempt by the LTTE cadres to evacuate their leader's son early this morning”.
Charles Anthony was known to be the head of Information and Technology department of the LTTE. It is said that the LTTE leader was compelled to recruit his son to the outfit to avoid criticism over his hypocrisy.
The army also said that bodies of LTTE political head B Nadesan and LTTE peace Secretariat chief Pulidevan have also been found in war zone.
Nadesan, who was a former police constable of Sri Lanka police, was known to be the political head of the outfit. Pulidevan was known to the head of "LTTE peace secretariat" while Ramesh was one of the most senior special military leader of the outfit.
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said the body of Antony was being identified for confirmation.
However, there is still no word on the fate of the outfit's supremo Prabhakaran about whom there have been lot of speculative reports in the last two days that he is also dead.
Lankan army says special forces closing in on LTTE supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran, Tigers' intelligence head Pottu Aman and Sea Tigers' chief Soosoi who have been confined to a 100m x 100m area, north of Vellamullivaikkal.
The development came a day after LTTE conceded its defeat saying the decades-old battle has reached its "bitter end" and they have decided to "silence" their guns.
