A private security guard on duty at a mine in Nuiyan village, about 80 km from Jamshedpur in West Singhbhum district was shot dead by unidentified assailants, police said on Friday.
Praveen Kumar Singh, a resident of Haryana, and another security guard were on duty at Rungta Mine when the assailants opened fire on Thursday night, killing Singh, said Sub-divisional Police Officer (Kiriburu), Rajat Bhakla. Bhakla, who rushed to the spot to investigate the matter, said the other security guard managed to escape.
The exact reason behind the incident was being ascertained, the SDPO said but denied involvement of the ultra groups. Enmity was being suspected as one reason behind the killing, police said adding that they area investigating all possible angles.
