Mumbai: Mumbai airport will be closed from 12 pm to 5 pm on all Mondays and Thursdays till November 28 as authorities are carrying out runway maintenance work, airport officials said.
According to the officials, the airport will not be operating during the said hours and all flights heading towards Mumbai have been cancelled due to prevention runway surface work.
“Domestic flights during the above timings have been cancelled on these two days. Congestion will be there of course, since the affected flights are not appearing in the reservation system due to non-operation there will be no bookings on these flights on these two days. So no question of informing passengers about cancellation (sic)," said the Air India official.
When asked how many flights will be affected due to the shutdown, an official said the maintenance would affect mostly domestic flights. The official also claimed the timings were chosen as it is not the peak time for flights to operate at Mumbai airport.
“Generally we try and find out other options when this kind of situation comes up. There are a number of factors which are kept in mind when the flight timings are changed - to make sure that there is no congestion at the airport and least inconvenience in caused to the passengers. The festive season has just ended, so hopefully there would not be much of a rush at the airport, but our airlines takes all measures to make things convenient for the airline users,” said an official from the state-owned carrier.
