BHUBANESWAR: Sambalpur is all set to be home to a 700-bed super speciality hospital, the largest of its kind in the State. The hospital, to be set up on PPP mode by Desun Hospital and Heart Institute, Kolkata, would be completed within three years. The hospital group would be investing Rs 170 crore in the first phase for the hospital which will be spread over seven acres provided by the State Government. It would bring advanced super speciality medical and healthcare to the people of Western Odisha, Health Minister Prasanna Acharya said. The state-of-the-art healthcare facility would have 24 departments with 30 operation theatres, two digital Cathlabs and the latest diagnostics, pathology and imaging cardiology setup. Besides, the hospital would work towards churning out trained manpower by running a GNM School, Paramedics training centre and offer courses like Post-Graduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology and Diplomate of National Board. It would generate employment to nearly 800 persons.The Hospital would gain accreditation from Joint Commission International (JCI), Health Department sources said. The Government with focus on strengthening critical care mechanisms in the district and grassroot level has decided to establish ICUs at the district headquarters hospitals (DHHs) level. Each DHH would be equipped with a six-bed ICU unit. In the first phase, 13 districts have been identified. The work on the 16 bed ICU at Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar is in progress and would be completed soon.Sick newborn care units (SNCUs) would also be set up in all the DHHs of the State by the year-end. Currently 21 DHHs have critical care units along with the three medical colleges and hospitals.The SNCUs at the three medical college and hospitals are proposed to be upgraded to Level 3 and expanded to 24 beds.
