CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has decided to constitute special courts to hear land grab cases in five districts. Initially, they will be accommodated at Tirunelveli, Krishnagiri, Salem, Erode and Tiruppur, where more number of land grab cases have been filed.Originally, the State government had requested the Madras High Court to form 25 special courts for exclusive trial of land grab cases throughout the State. The High Court wanted a corresponding increase in the cadre strength of judicial officers in the rank of Civil Judge (Junior Division) and also the requisite infrastructure. The government accepted both the requests and issued orders for the increase in the cadre strength of Civil Judge (Junior Division) and for additional staff and other corresponding facilities to each Special Court, as proposed by the High Court. The government said a huge number of complaints of land grab had been received throughout the State and the number of cases ready for trial was also increasing. So, there was a necessity for constitution of the Special Courts. The Administrative Committee of the High Court, headed by CJ MY Eqbal, accepted the reasons justifying the constitution of the Special Courts.
